Comigo ele reconhece, hatacess do proprio wordpress, cake dentre outros... N precisei mudar nada a n ser acrescentar  a leitura do mesmo nas configurações...

    Amigo, Nginx tem suas próprias regras de interpretação de urls, chamadas rewrite rules.

    Não amigo, quem reconhece é o apache e não ´Nginx.

    O que você tem aí é o Nginx como proxy passando as requisições de php pro Apache, Faça um teste simples, desligue o apache, e veja o que acontece.
