Não recomendo alterar nada no /root/.my.cnf

 

Altere no /etc/my.cnf

Em uma verificação dessas, em uma ocasião, eu encontrei a conta de um cliente que tinha 12gb de banco de dados em um servidor compartilhado que causava o reinicio do servidor mysql.
