Visitante Postado Janeiro 19, 2012 Compartilhar Postado Janeiro 19, 2012 Nem tão inesperado, todos já sabiam que iria acontecer.. Kodak has filed for bankruptcy to the sadness of many but to nobody’s surprise: The New York Stock Exchange today said that trading in Eastman Kodak shares “should be suspended immediately.” And in fact trading in the stock on the NYSE was halted earlier this morning. The statement follows Kodak’s announcement early this morning that it has filed for protection from creditors under Chapter 11 of the U.S. bankruptcy code. “NYSE Regulation has determined that the Company is no longer suitable for listing,” the exchange said. “This decision was reached in view of the company’s January 19, 2012 announcement that it and its U.S. subsidiaries have filed voluntary petitions for Chapter 11 business reorganization in the U.S Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. NYSE Regulation noted the uncertainty as to the timing and outcome of the bankruptcy process, as well as the ultimate effect of this process on the Company’s common stockholders.” This is just evolution, of course, though it’s a sad day for workers and others effected by the announcement. It’s never fun to see an icon of American enterprise fade or file bankruptcy. Of course it’s not really technology that killed Kodak. We killed the film manufacturer. We chose to use digital cameras instead of film. We found the SD cards and USB cables far more convenient. And so we killed the company through our neglect and Kodak didn’t know how to respond or how to respond in time. Maybe they can restructure and return once again to some new days of glory. Meanwhile, with SOPA in the news, it’s interesting to think about how other legacy industries and companies are attempting to prevent the inevitable. When a business model is threatened you can adapt, use the force of law and protectionism to save you, or fail. Kodak couldn’t adapt. The entertainment industry is attempting to use government regulations to their advantage. Such is the economy in an age of such rapidly changing technology. It’s important to remember, though, that you and I are the driving force of this change. There is nothing nefarious about it. It’s the death of a thousand paper cuts. As coisas não são mais como antigamente, hoje dormir no ponto é o pior pesadelo. Link para o comentário Compartilhar em outros sites
